French winger Christopher Nkunku was named Germany’s Footballer of the Year a while ago and has become one of the best players in the country.
Since the departure of Robert Lewandowski, Bayern Munich seem to be missing a target nine. While Nkunku is more of an attacking midfielder than a striker, he proved his worth with 35 goals in all competitions last season.
The French winger has often been linked with a move to Bayern for months already, even before Lewandowski left. In an interview with the German sports magazine, „SportBild“, Nkunku has now spoken about whether coach Julian Nagelsmann contacted him. His response was: „Not once“.
At the same time, Nkunku admitted there had been „a few requests from different clubs“ over the summer, but he did not reveal whether FC Bayern was one of them. RB Leipzig had made it clear to him that he shouldn’t leave the club. Due to this, Nkunku claims that it „made me feel important“. The player extended his contract until 2026.
According to rumors, there is a verbal agreement between the player and the club which allows him to leave in 2023 if the player wants. But the Frenchman himself does not want to make any predictions. “No one can say what will eventually happen. To say now I’ll be there or there in July is a bit crazy,“ he said.
Nkunku also praised Bayern Munich for the transfer of Sadio Mané. „Bayern is a big club and they should buy more players like him. They are good for the Bundesliga.”
