Bayern Munich have found an interesting and not an unfamiliar candidate as a Robert Lewandowski replacement in the French Ligue 1.

After Hugo Ekitike, a new name has recently been linked with Bayern. The Canadian striker Jonathan David has appeared on the list of potential Lewandowski successors. According to reports by „Sport BILD“, the Bavarians have set their eyes on the 22-year-old attacker.

David is not unfamiliar to the Bayern bosses. Reports were already circulating at the beginning of 2020 that Bayern had the Canadian on their radar.

The Canadian striker has been playing in French Ligue 1 at OSC Lille since summer 2020 and scored 19 goals in 48 games last season. The youngster also already has Champions League experience. In the past season, he played in eight UEFA Champions League matches and scored three goals.

David’s contract with the French team expires in 2025, but the French would be quite willing to sell the striker in the summer. According to transfer insider in the Americas, Manuel Veth, Lille demands for the attacker a sum of 50 million euros in order to start negotiations and take the matter seriously. The current market value of David is estimated by Transfermarkt at 45 million euros.

What is interesting: Jonathan David is said to be a big fan of the Bundesliga. Even before moving to Lille, his agent hinted that „the Bundesliga comes first“ for the striker. At that time, the Canadian talent hoped to make a big breakthrough in the Bundesliga just like his compatriot Alphonso Davies did.

Davies and David know each other very well from the Canadian national team, which can help Bayern Munich a lot if they were to pursue the striker seriously.
