„Puts himself on the service of the team“ – Nagelsmann excited of Bayern’s new star signing Mane

Sadio Mane has been officially announced as a Bayern Munich player starting from 1st July 2022. Nobody would have thought that the club would be making such a major transfer.

During the official presentation of Sadio Mané in Munich yesterday, head coach Julian Nagelsmann was only present as a „guest“. Oliver Kahn, Hasan Salihamidzic, and Herbert Hainer sat next to Mané on stage and answered the journalists‘ questions. The 34-year-old, on the other hand, was present as a spectator. After the press conference ended the Bayern coach spoke for the first time on Bayern’s star transfer.

According to Mané, Nagelsmann played a key role in being convinced of the „FC Bayern project“ from the start. Nagelsmann says that he was excited for Mane right after the first meeting with the Senegalese: “Right from the first conversation, he made a very, very selfless impression. That’s exceptional for a player with such a big name. He said very cautiously: He can imagine playing in any position.“

„You rarely experience that in a first conversation that a player puts himself totally at the service of the club and the coach. After that, our urge was even greater to finalize the transfer“ he explained in an interview with the club’s website.

Nagelsmann seems particularly pleased that Bayern signed Mane: „We are Bayern Munich. We always have the chance to bid for big stars. Sometimes we reach financial limits, especially when the boys are playing in England. It was different with Sadio because he is very interested in our project, the club, and the teammates. I was very happy.”

Above all, Nagelsmann likes the flexibility of the winger: “We also have to wait and see what happens on the transfer market. But Sadio is a player who can play four or five positions without any problems – and can also switch positions during the game.”
