The former Bayern legend is less than impressed with Alaba’s agent after the Austrian refused to sign a new deal.
The saga with David Alaba and Bayern Munich shows no signs of slowing down and now Bayern director Oliver Kahn has weighed in on the situation and to say he is unhappy would be an understatement.
Alaba has already confirmed that he sees his future elsewhere and this season will bring an end to his Bayern career which has spanned 13 years after rejecting the club’s new offer. Now Kahn has stated that he feels the negotiations were scuppered by Alaba’s agent, Pini Zahavi and the once glorious shot-stopper said he feels disappointed a deal could not be reached.
Kahn spoke to Kicker and was less than impressed with how Zahavi went about the contract negotiations.
“In a certain way, I am actually disaffected because I notice a disconnection from reality, which is breathtaking,” Kahn said of his interactions with Zahavi.
“We appreciate David Alaba very much, he is an extraordinary person, always friendly and open. Although we tried everything to keep him, no agreement was reached.
With a host of other star players in line for new deals, most notably Robert Lewandowski, Manuel Neuer, and Thomas Muller, all of who are in great form, Kahn wants to avoid a repeat of the Alaba situation and you can not blame him.
“Why shouldn’t we remember to extend with one or the other again if they play like they are at the moment?” Kahn said.
It still remains to be seen where exactly Alaba ends up with Barcelona and Real Madrid said to be firm favourites for his signature, but one thing is for sure, the dealings with Alaba and his agent have left a rather sour taste in the mouth of Bayern’s director.
