The agent of the Austrian has denied reports a deal with Barcelona has been finalized.

Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has seen his agent deny reports that he has reached a contract agreement with Barcelona. As it is common knowledge now, Alaba will be departing Bavaria at season’s end and as you can imagine, there are a host of clubs vying for his signature.

Despite numerous reports, Alaba’s agent, Pini Zahavi told both SPOX and Goal that an agreement with the Spanish giants is “not true”.

Laporta hoping to convince Alaba

Barcelona has a new president after Joan Laporta was sworn into power at the weekend and it appears he has already met with Alaba to discuss a potential move. Laporta returns to the post he once held for seven years between 2003 and 2010 and is hoping to turn around the club’s fortunes after by their standards, has been a failure of a season.

To make matters worse, after a trophy-less season last year, Barcelona saw their Champions League hopes dashed after losing to Paris Saint-Germain 5-2 on aggregate and there are serious doubts over whether Leo Messi will sign a new deal as he is set to hit the open market as the end of the season. Adding Alaba to Barca’s ranks could be used as a tool to persuade Messi to stay, although one player would not make the difference Messi is looking for.

Alaba’s time in Bavaria is near it’s end

After contract negotiations stalled, Alaba revealed that at the end of the current campaign, he would be leaving Bavaria after helping them to nine Bundesliga titles as well as two European crowns.

He has stated a preference for Spain, however, a host of clubs from England, France, and Italy are all vying for his services. Hopefully, Alaba can end his stay at the Allianz by helping his side retain both the Bundesliga and Champions League titles before he joins his next adventure.
