The 104th meeting of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund takes place on Saturday in the next installment of Der Klassiker.

Bayern will be looking for all three points as they look to stay ahead of RB Leipzig in second, while Dortmund will be looking for their third won on the bounce as they look to secure Champions League football next season.

Team news

Bayern

Hansi Flick’s side is starting to get players back after right-back Benjamin Pavard was spotting in training this week after overcoming a bout of COVID-19, however, Saturday’s clash with Dortmund is expected to come too soon for the Frenchman.

The only injury concerns for the league leaders are Douglas Costa, Corentin Tolisso, Tanguy Nianzou, and Alexander Nubel who are all listed as out for Bayern.

Because of their performance against Koln last time out, it is expected that Flick will thrust both Thomas Muller and Serge Gnabry into the starting XI with Choupo-Moting and young star Jamal Musiala expected to make way for the pair.

Borussia Dortmund

For the visitors, their injury list is considerably longer than their hosts as Edin Terzic will be without a host of players including Jadon Sancho, Giovanni Reyna, Raphael Guerreiro, Manuel Akanji, Marcel Schmelzer, and Axel Witsel.

Midfielder Thomas Delaney made his return from a fever midweek against Monchengladbach, and it is expected he will start in the heart of Dortmund’s midfield. Emre Can is likely to partner Mats Hummels in defense as they will look to curtail the influence of Bayern’s attacking threats.

Bayern Munich potential lineup:

Neuer; Sule, Boateng, Alaba, Davies; Kimmich, Goretzka; Sane, Muller, Gnabry; Lewandowski

Prediction: With Dortmund’s injury list and Bayern on a tear at the moment, it is hard to see anything else other than a Munich win. However games are not won on paper and Dortmund’s defence is not easy to unlock. Expect a tight and tense affair with the Bavarian’s coming out on top….just.

Scoreline-Bayern 2-1 Dortmund
