Young Bayern Munich loanee Chris Richards has impressed in his first match with Hoffenheim as his side lost 3-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Moving to a team in the same division as your parent club might not seem like a huge deal, but the young defender had to get used to life as a Hoffenheim player very quickly as he was thrust straight into the first team.

According to Mannheimer Morgen, Richards was getting detailed instructions right up until the first whistle of the match from teammate Andrej Kramaric. There were many gestures like running and pass paths from the forward, all designed to help the youngster make the transition easier and it appeared to work as people on social media noticed the youngster’s talent.
Chris Richards has been sensational in defense today for Hoffenheim. Great in 1-on-1 defending so far. #USMNT

Coach happy with first outing
After the loss, Richards stated he was happy with his overall performance and Sebastian Hoeneß echoed those thoughts too.
“I was satisfied, he performed properly,” Hoeneß said. “He’s a defender who can defend hard on a man. As an open type, he’s willing to learn and he’s ambitious.”
It might only be early days for the young defender at Hoffenheim, but if he can continue to put in good showings for the remainder of the campaign, then when his loan deal expires, Hansi Flick will have a decision to make as to whether Richards deserves some first-team minutes.
With Jerome Boateng’s future murky at best, if Richards proves himself at Hoffenheim, he very well might take the World Cup winner’s spot at the heart of the Bayern defense.
