Hansi Flick confirms Alexander Nubel to miss FIFA Club World Cup; Doubt over Leon Goretzka and Javi Martinez
Hansi Flick has confirmed backup goalkeeper Alexander Nubel will definitely miss the FIFA Club World Cup that’s set to take place in Qatar this month.
Bayern Munich named a strong 23-man squad, which included Nubel, and Leon Goretzka and Javi Martinez, who tested positive for coronavirus last week.
And Flick has now revealed that Nubel will be out due to injury, the jury is still out on Goretzka and Martinez.
Speaking at a press conference, the Bayern boss said: “Alex Nubel will complete his rehabilitation. We will have to wait and see with Javi Martinez and Leon Goretzka. After quarantine, they will first have to take a test. Javi’s quarantine is now over, while Leon’s goes until Friday.”

He also added that the next couple of weeks pose a tough schedule for Bayern, who play Hertha over the weekend, travel to Qatar, and play games on Monday and Thursday.
Flick said: “Going to Qatar represents a heavy workload for us. We first have to fly there, then we play on Monday and Thursday. That doesn’t give us a lot of time. But, first we have the game against Hertha.”
The FIFA Club World Cup is set to take place from February 4-11, and will see Bayern take on either Al-Duhail or African champions Al Ahly of Egypt on 8 February at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium.
If they win, the Bundesliga giants will face the winner of Palmeiras vs. Tigres/Ulsan Hyundai at Education City Stadium on 11 February.
