Bayern Munich reportedly held a ‘secret meeting’ with the representatives of RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano on Thursday, according to reports from Germany.
The Bundesliga champions have been linked with a move for the highly-rated Frenchman, and are reportedly leading the race ahead of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool.
Upamecano has an exit clause in his contract that is understood to be €42-45 million.
Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed the club’s interest in the 22-year-old, but ruled out any transfer taking place this month. He was also quick to point out that Upamecano to Bayern was not a done deal, yet.
“The player will stay at Leipzig at least until the end of the season,” Rummenigge added.
Could a future move for Upamecano be on the cards?
And now, German news outlet BILD have claimed that Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic reportedly met with Upamecano’s agents from Sports360.
The report claims the defender’s agents, Sascha Breese and Volker Struth, were spotted entering the underground car park of Bayern Munich’s offices just after 4pm on Thursday. They were seen leaving the complex at around 7pm, with BILD claiming the pair met with Salihamidzic to discuss Upamecano’s future.
Hansi Flick’s side view the Frenchman as a potential successor to David Alaba, who is set to depart at the end of the current season, with Real Madrid his most likely destination.
The BILD report should be taken with a pinch of salt, but Rummenigge’s comments over the last couple of weeks and this report now only add fat to the fire. Things could be progressing at a much quicker rate than anticipated.
