Bayern Munich host SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga as they look to bounce back after their shock loss to Holstein Kiel in the DFB-Pokal mid-week.
The game represents the perfect chance for Hansi Flick’s side to pull further away from the chasing pack at the top of the table. RB Leipzig was held to a draw by Wolfsburg, Bayer Leverkusen lost to Union Berlin, and Borussia Dortmund was held by Mainz. The fact that Bayern’s closest rivals all dropped points puts extra significance on the match.
With a win, Bayern will extend their lead over second-place RB Leipzig to four points, while Freiburg could jump up to sixth in the table. Christina Streich’s side has won five consecutive league matches for the first time in the club’s history and will be looking to add to that when they face a Bayern side who are leaking goals at the back.
Hansi Flick’s side is again near full strength with only Serge Gnabry and Tanguy Niazou the only players who are officially out of the clash. The fact the Bayern have a relatively healthy squad makes their recent stutter all the more bizarre.
Christina Streich will be without Kwon Chang-hoon, Mark Flekken, Gian-Luca Itter, and Jonathan Schmid. It is highly doubtful that Streich will make any changes to the side that thumped FC Koln 5-0 last time out with Vincenzo Grifo and Sallai both expected to be a pivotal part of their side’s counterattack when they face the champions.
Bayern Munich predicted starting lineup:
Neuer; Pavard, Boateng, Alaba, Davies; Goretzka, Kimmich; Sane, Muller, Coman; Lewandowski.
Hansi Flick’s side will want to get back on the winner’s list after back to back losses but will face stiff competition from a Freiburg side in good form.
Predicted scoreline- Bayern 3-2 Freiburg
