Borussia Monchengladbach welcome table-toppers Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga on Friday with the visitors looking for a victory that would keep them top of the pile.

Heading into the clash, Gladbach is currently just four points off a Champions League qualification place and they may need to string together some wins to be in those positions come the season end.

Hansi Flick’s team’s position at the top of the Bundesliga table looked incredibly shaky against Mainz after going down 2-0 in the first half. However, the champions roared back with five second half goals to overwhelm the relegation candidates.

Bayern again conceded the first goal in a match and against Mainz, it was the eighth consecutive match in which they had done so, and they will be hoping history does not repeat against Gladbach.

Team news

For Gladbach, they will miss Thuram who is serving a three-match suspension after he was caught spitting on a Hoffenheim player with Valentina Lazaro also out due to injury.

Marco Rose will also be without Rocco Reitz, Torben Musel, Famana Quizera, and Jan Olschowsky who are all listed as out. Jonas Hofmann has recovered from a thigh injury and is expected to feature in some capacity.

For Bayern Munich, Joshua Zirkee and Tanguy Nianzou are the only players unavailable so that means that Hansi Flick has a full squad to choose from for the trip to Gladbach.

Both Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich appeared to be back to full fitness after starting in the win over Mainz and Leon Goretzka returned from the bench as he looks to put his injury troubles behind him.

Possible starting lineup:

Neuer; Sule, Boateng, Alaba, Davies; Goretzka, Kimmich; Coman, Muller, Gnabry; Lewandowski.

Bayern will be looking to put the pressure on RB Leipzig who host Borussia Dortmund on Saturday with a win over Gladbach.

However, their poor starts have been a concern recently and Hansi Flick will not want a repeat of the first half against Mainz. Look for Bayern to get on the front foot early.
