Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick shared his satisfaction with Leroy Sane’s performance against FSV Mainz 05 at Allianz Arena.
The German coach is backing the attacking winger to keep working hard after he scored the crucial equalizer against the Carnival club.
Much to everyone’s surprise, Bayern could not get a hold of the game from the start against relegation-threatened Mainz by conceding two goals in the first half. However, the Bavarians turned it around after scoring five goals in the second half.
Sane, who had an impressive spell with English Premier League club Manchester City before joining Bayern in July last year, was named in the starting lineup after a muscle injury ruled Kingsley Coman out from the fixture.
Flick replaced Sane against Bayern Leverkusen just 36 minutes after bringing him on for the injured Coman. The gaffer was quick to acknowledge that he had a conversation with the UEFA Champions League winner regarding his substitution, game time and confirmed that he shared his expectations with the player.
Sane took full advantage of the chance and managed to get the equalizer after Joshua Kimmich opened the scoring for the home team. Flick hailed the team’s second-half performance to snatch the victory and tipped Sane to find consistency in his game.
“I talked to him frankly and explained why,” said the manager.
“He has room for improvement. He has enormous quality. We have to give him the time. He’s not as emotional as many would like him to be. He is very critical about his own performance. He has an enormous quality with his speed and his left foot. He gets support from all of us.” added Flick.
With a satisfactory performance against Mainz, it’s highly likely that Sane would retain his place in the starting eleven when Bayern heads to Borussia-Park. As things stand, the Bavarians are atop of the league table and two points ahead from second-placed RB Leipzig.
