Barcelona have received another setback in a forgettable year with Die Mannschaft looking to pounce on Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutch midfielder was on the pitch as Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus hammered Barcelona 0-3. De Jong even roused Lionel Messi from his sleep and had choice words for during the fixture.

With Barcelona struggling to perform in the Champions League and La Liga, the midfielder’s days are numbered. He has a contract at Camp Nou until June 2026 but will leave earlier than expected.

Hansi Flick has been impressed by the enterprising midfielder’s performances and versatility. Bayern Munich tried to persuade the Catalans in the summer, but their advances were rejected.

However, this might not be the case in their next attempt. According to Mundo Deportivo, they will be making another attempt to sign him, and Barcelona will listen.

The Catalan club is marred by financial woes and will be looking to generate cash through player sales. Barcelona’s net debt increased to £440m, and they lost £88m in the financial year ending June 2020.

The record Bundesliga champions will welcome these misgivings. They have been plagued by their own injury crisis and will try to sign the youngster. Moreover, with Javi Martinez leaving next year, they need quality addition to their ranks.

De Jong fits Bayern’s footballing philosophy and transfer market policies. He is a quality young player who can service the first team for years to come.
