Hansi Flick’s men were lucky to scrape with a draw against RB Leipzig as their injury list got bloated with two more additions.
It was an entertaining night of football with nothing to separate the two sides in this six-goal thriller. Julien Nagelsmann came close to the unthinkable. Tonight, he would rue why RB Leipzig are not returning to Red Bull Arena with the three points.
Die Roten Bullen had the lead until the 75th minute but Thomas Mueller spoiled their night. He scored his second of the night to deny Leipzig Bundesliga top honors. Bayern Munich maintain top honors with a two-point advantage.
Hans-Dieter Flick would have been pleased with his side’s resilience had it not been for the injuries. Both Javi Martinez and Jerome Boateng had to be stretchered off. The Spaniard came off in the 25th minute, while Boateng held on until the 84th minute.
After the match, Flick update on the injuries to his defensive ranks. The 55-year-old tactician shared that nothing can be said with certainty about Martinez’s injury as could have a muscle tear.
“How severe, I don’t know 100 percent yet, but it could be in the direction of a fiber tear,” Flick said.
In the final stretch of the game, Boateng complained of muscular problems and had to be brought off. The loss of the duo will be tough as Bayern Munich negotiate Champions League and Bundesliga appointments.
They welcome Lokomotiv Moscow in midweek, before embarking on a hectic three-game run that sees them take on Union Berlin, VfL Wolfsburg, and Bayer Leverkusen in the space of eight days.
